このハンカチに描かれているのは「白馬の騎士」からイメージした馬です。
西吾妻山に突如現れる白馬の騎士。それは、米沢の冬の始まりと終わりを伝える米沢の風物詩です。
ゲレンデに残った雪の形がまるで槍を持った騎士が白馬に乗っているように見えることから「白馬の騎士」と言われ、山に雪が降り始め白馬の騎士が見えてくるとそろそろ街にも雪が降り、寒い冬が始まる合図。
そして周りに積もった雪が溶け始め、姿が鮮明になってくると暖かい春が近づいている合図になります。
この話は、移住してすぐに教えてもらいました。それだけ雪とともに暮らす人々にとっては欠かせない印なんだろうなと感じています。何よりも、そんな合図が白馬の騎士なんて、とてもロマンチックですよね。
このデザインでは、馬の形が山のようにも見えるよう描いており、見え方や捉え方でさまざまな面白さを感じさせます。

Handkerchief Inspired by the “White Knight on a White Horse”
This design is inspired by Yonezawa’s winter legend—the “White Knight on a White Horse” seen on Mt. Nishi-Azuma. Formed by lingering snow on the slopes, the shape resembles a knight holding a spear on horseback. Locals say its appearance marks the arrival of winter snow in town, while its clearer form signals the approach of spring. A romantic sign woven into life with the seasons.
The motif is drawn so that the horse also resembles a mountain, inviting different interpretations.
